A picture taker, or a picture maker?
“Starting from a Blank Canvas” explores two of my favourite subjects, flower portraiture and still life, revealing how I approach each with a photographer’s eye rather than a botanist’s.
In the flower portraiture section, I share my process for finding each bloom’s unique character and mood, aiming for creative interpretation over accurate documentation. The still life section delves into composition, light, texture and colour, following my “mind’s eye first, camera second” approach, with schematic illustrations showing my studio setup along the way.
