Newport Photographic Club
The first meeting in April was our annual inter-club competition with Tettenhall Wood. Unfortunately, Tettenhall turned out a very strong set of prints & projected images and beat us handsomely. Still, there is always next year………
The third themed competition took place on 13th April on the subject of “Action”. Heather Woodhams judged and it was her first visit to the club. Heather gave an excellent commentary and critique of the images and provided some very constructive comments. The results were as follows:
1. Nemesis Edward Kosinski
2. Landing Approach Rod Bunyan
3. Very Close John Macey
4. Two Brave Ladies John Macey
5. Up the Inside Richard Greswell
6. The Axeman Richard Greswell

On 20th April we invited members to bring their prints along for an informal review by a panel of club members. The panel of Geoff Sellars, Barbara Collins, Jim Shaw & Edward Kosinski provided constructive comments and pointed out where possible improvements in technique or composition might have made a better image.
On 27th April we were to host a visit by a company called Imaging Warehouse. The company manufactures and sells paper, dark room equipment and colour calibration equipment, but unfortunately they had to cancel at the last minute. Instead we had a Photoshop evening trying to sort out any P/s problems for members. The second half of the evening was a short feedback session on how the mentoring scheme was working out. In general each mentoring group was adopting it’s own style and the mentees seemed to be very satisfied on the help they were getting.
The May 4 meeting seems to be fated. We are now on plan D which is a Member’s Evening, hosted by Rod Bunyan. I am hoping that this will be the last change to this season’s programme!
The final Open competition of the year takes place on 11 May when Peter Sivitar will judge. The rules for this competition are slightly different inn that members can enter images which have been tried in previous competitions but were not placed. This is an opportunity if you think a previous judge was a bit harsh on you and you are looking for a second opinion.
Bob Johnson from Gnosall will be presenting an Audio Visual sequence on 18 May. The basis will be the history of Gnosall. A few of the Gnosall members have had a preview of the presentation and were very impressed with it.
The meeting on 25 May has been deliberately left free for members to choose what they would like to do. If you have any suggestions or proposals please e mail Howard.
The AGM is on 8 June. This is your opportunity to comment on how the club is run, make suggestions for changes and to elect the committee. Start thinking about areas where you think we could improve and do better.
www.northlight-images.co.uk is a website worth visiting. There are lots of useful articles, images and ideas, together with downloadable colour charts if you want to test your printer/monitor set up.
There is plenty of room on the website if you would like to have a gallery of add images if you already have a gallery. Contact Howard for details of how to send your pictures in
The Summer Social & Prizegiving Dinner will be held at the Lilleshall Hall Golf Club on Tuesday 15 June. Details from Val Johns – more information will be sent out by e mail.
